Tech Trends – 2015
With every year that passes technology becomes increasingly embedded in our lives. Sometimes we can see it (smartphones), othertimes the tech sits quietly in the shadows (cloud computing). Either way, it is an exciting time for technological advancements.
Putting my clarevoyant hat on, I have set out a list below of the areas that I think will be big or continue to impress in 2015. The listed technologies are all areas that are already being talked about and are heavily intertwined. In a world where we all expect wifi, own tablets and spend our lives staring into our phones, it is no wonder that technology owns us.
Internet of things (IoT)/ Smart Machines
Devices all connecting to each other and the internet. What a great idea. I’m sure there will great uses of this that haven’t yet been considered but for now it’s all about controlling your heating, gas, lights, doors etc. The control point will most likely be your smartphone, laptop or tablet. The big brother of this is Smart Machines. The best example of these are robots and self driving cars, although I think it will be a decade at least before they are prevalent. Re IoT, I get the feeling that we will start to see subsects of this as the definition is too wide and uncomfortable.
Wearables
The obvious example is the watch. This could just be a fad however. I do wonder if people just feel that an extension of your smartphone is fun for a while but has no lasting purpose. Whether you’re an Apple fan or not the Apple Watch will probably define this market.
3D Printing
I’m not sure I’ll ever get into this but it does seem to be the future of printing. Want to print a shoe or a gun? Easy… also a bit worrying.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has integrated itself into our everyday life. Anyone with any kind of multiple device lifestyle is using Dropbox or Google to help ease document management. Putting aside security concerns, the cloud is a God send.
